Site 20 in Getting to the Water’s Edge

About:  Change is constant on Whidbey’s beaches and bluffs, especially at Libbey Beach where erosion is dramatic and continuous. Study how tectonic, glacial and shoreline processes shape our active western shores. See firsthand how our famous “feeder bluffs” erode and play a vital role in the life of the sea, including the spectacular “badlands”– possibly the most active, continuous, and accessible bluff erosion on all of Whidbey. Stand in and learn about the “kettles”, formed by ancient “ice cubes”. PaulBen’s magical interpretation promises a unique encounter with tide pools, glacial erratics, and this dramatic and species-rich beach.
