Kelly joined us with the 2012 class (we were then Island County Beach Watchers) and has logged over 1000 volunteer hours since then. From March to Septemter 2016 she was our part-time SWS Staff Assistant.
Meet Kelly in her own words and pictures …
I am passionate about the marine environment and my values and interests align well with the mission of Sound Water Stewards.
In the last 4 years, I have devoted most of my volunteer time to intertidal bio-monitoring, organizing education opportunities at festivals/fairs, lead on the Whidbey Island Steering Committee for monthly meetings, and was a member of the Beach Watchers Advisory Council.
Thanks to this amazing organization and because of my invaluable volunteer experience I am continuing my education toward a degree in Marine Biology specializing in environmental interpretive education. I am currently working on prerequisite classes as I am able at Skagit Valley College.
On a personal note, another facet in my life is metalsmithing and photography which allow me to play with a few of my favorite things — chemistry, experimentation, and creativity. My sustainable jewelry is shown at a local gallery here on Whidbey.
I am an adventurer at heart and love to try new things. Recently I got certified in open water diving.
I am thankful to be given the opportunity to be a part of this thriving organization as the new Whidbey Coordinator.
