Welcome – New Camano Coordinator!

by Mikaela Montanari

Meet our new Camano Island Coordinator, Mikaela Montanari! She comes to us with a Master of Science in Natural Resources (emphasis in Conservation Social Science) and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science. Mikaela has previously worked for the Seattle Aquarium as a Marine Science Interpreter and as a Community Engagement Liaison, in which she supported volunteers inside and outside the aquarium. She has naturalized on twelve different Seattle beaches and on the Cedar River. Mikaela has also worked with Pacific Marine Research, teaching their Marine Science Afloat program in Elliot Bay to 3-12th grade students. Mikaela is currently splitting her time between with the WSU Beach Watchers program in Snohomish County and with the Sound Water Stewards.

Some fun facts about Mikaela is that she was raised in Port Townsend, Washington and has been scuba diving in the Puget Sound since she was fourteen with her Dad. She has also dived in Canada, Belize, Costa Rica, and Bonaire! She lives on 5 acres in the heart of the Tulalip Reservation, and spends many hours in the woods hunting for fungi of all kinds. She looks forward to working with all of you!

Please feel free to get ahold of Mikaela through email (camano-coord@soundwaterstewards.org) or by phone (360-774-2339).
