New Orca Video

Photograph by Jill Hein

by Barbara Bennett '11

A new video, “Penn Cove Orca Captures and Lessons Learned Since”, was added a few weeks ago to the Coupeville wharf marine display. It has been a two year project for Oak Harbor High School students of Wild Cat Productions (the school’s video program) under the leadership of their teacher Chris Douthitt, and with technical assistance from Sound Water Stewards Barbara Bennett (display lead) and Jill Hein, and film partner organizations Sound Water Stewards and Orca Network. It features Island County residents who witnessed the 1970’s killer whale captures in Penn Cove: Lyla Snover and Captain John Stone, Whidbey resident and author: Sandra Pollard, and NOAA Fisheries Marine Biologist: Lynne Barre. It’s a whale of a story told in less than 9 minutes – here’s the video.
