4th Monday Whidbey members’ meeting
Summer is here. Lets be OUTSIDE! Our June 25 gathering will be a field trip at South
Whidbey State Park. Janet Hall, State Park Interpretive Specialist, will lead us on a guided
hike on the Wilbert Trail at S.Whidbey State Park to explore the magnificent old growth forest of SWSP.
Join Janet for a fascinating walk through the old growth forest. Learn how this ecosystem was saved from clear-cutting by locals. Discover how trees can communicate and actually support each other.
Directions: Turn into the Park off Smuggler’s Cove Road, and proceed to the large, main parking lot next to the bathroom and amphitheater. You will need a Discover Pass. We will gather at 10am. This is a hike with some moderate up and down with stairs, boardwalks and bumpy trail. The loop hike will take 1.5 hours.
Optional Lunch — Please plan to stay after the hike for a brown bag lunch at the picnic area by the
large main parking lot & near the amphitheater.
Please bring: water bottle, mussel disks, your name tag, your Discover Pass.
Hiking poles, sack lunch — optional. As always, dress for the June-uary weather, in layers. Could be muddy, could be dry…
