Unparalleled Opportunity to Learn about Nature in Island County

adventure awaits - 2023 - square

Get involved. Are you an outdoor lover curious about the marine shore life, marine mammals, or water quality? Perhaps you are concerned about development in your neighborhood and its impacts on natural resources or want to learn more about your favorite beach.  I am a member of Sound Water Stewards of Island County. We are opening a new training session that involves 100 hours of training and looking for people who want to learn and volunteer with us. Sound Water Stewards (SWS) are trained volunteers working in and around Island County for a healthy, sustainable marine environment through education, science, and stewardship. Meet people. Outdoors. Have fun.

What does that look like? First, we train the volunteers in environmental processes including intertidal marine life identification, regional geology, climate change, stormwater management, forage fish, and forest management, to name a few of the topics covered. Then we volunteer in Community Science projects, Stewardship, Education, or all of the above outside on the shore.
