Never seen or heard of a Marbled Murrelet? Neither had nature writer Maria Ruth, until 1999. Her accidental encounter with this endearing and endangered seabird of the Pacific Northwest coast changed the course of her life.
The chance encounter resulted in her publishing a work of non-fiction, Rare Bird: Pursuing the Mystery of the Marbled Murrelet in 2005. Since then, the fifteen years (and counting) of her volunteer advocacy work helps to protect this seabird and the forests where it nests.
In a richly illustrated slide presentation, Maria will introduce you to this fascinating seabird, its life history, its conservation challenges, and why it matters--now more than ever.
