Sound Waters is a one day conference, or "university for all", held annually on the first Saturday in February. The first Sound Waters was in the early 1990's and was a small gathering. This is our 26th event, and we expect well over 600 people. The keynote begins the day, and is followed by three sessions featuring a choice of 60 classes, plus an exhibits hall that runs all day.
No prior knowledge is required - just an interest in learning about and taking care of this amazing place where we live.
Normal registration is $60.00
A reduced registration of $30.00 is availabe for
Coffee (donated by Useless Bay Coffee) and tea, and fruit are provided as part of your registration fee.
4H will provide coffee, yummy baked goods during morning and afternoon breaks (donations gratefully accepted)
An optional catered lunch (see menu) is available for an additional $15.00, and must be ordered when registering for classes.
You are, of course, welcome to bring your own brown-bag lunch. (But please help us by using reusable or compostable containers; and please pack out all your non-compostable garbage.)

We are trained volunteers working in and around Island County for a healthy, sustainable Puget Sound environment through education, community outreach, stewardship, and citizen science.
The annual Sound Waters one-day university is our largest educational/outreach activity - from the late spring kickoff to the March post-mortem - the team puts in over 3000 hours of volunteer time.
If you find the course offerings at Sound Waters interesting, consider joining our organization - classes begin each spring - and more information will become available on our website in the new year.

We will be offering 10 scholarships (for high school students and teachers ) - at each of these schools: South Whidbey HS, Coupeville HS, Oak Harbor HS, Skagit Valley CC.. Recipients get free registration. Contact your school office.
For others for whom the registration fee would be a hardship, you may email email@example.com (please put scholarship in the subject) for an application for a limited number of discounted registrations.
Students may register for a reduced fee of $30.00
The registration form will ask you to identify your school, and we expect you to bring your student identification with you to Sound Waters University 2020.
We extend the same reduced fee to Americorps volunteers.
We are pleased to offer reduced price registration of $30.00 to active duty military and their spouses.
Please bring your identification on the day of the event.
Active teachers may register for a reduced fee of $30.00
The registration form will ask you to identify the school at which you are currently teaching, and we expect you to bring identification with you to Sound Waters 2020.
Clock hours are also available.
As a certified Washington State teacher, you may earn five (5) Continuing Education clock hours through Washington State University for attending Sound Waters University 2020 in its entirety, on Saturday, February 1, 2020 , from 8:30 AM- through 4:30 PM
When registering for classes, indicate on the on-line registration form that you would like to receive CEU clock hours for attending Sound Waters University 2020.
The day of Sound Waters, you’ll need to bring: (1) your Washington Certificate NUMBER, and (2) a check for $10 payable to “WSU Clock Hours”.
Once you are at Sound Waters, you’ll find in your registration packet a WSU Certified in-service Registration form for Sound Waters and a WSU Evaluation form for Sound Waters.
During the day, while attending classes – please complete your WSU Certified in-service Registration form, complete the WSU Evaluation form, and attach your check for $10, payable to WSU Clock Hours.
At the end of the day, please give these completed forms, with check, to one of the volunteers at the registration desk.
Your Certified in-service Registration form will be authorized by WSU, used to record your hours through WSU and mailed back to you for your records.

Yes. On most lines showing the title of a class, you will see a star image to the far left. If you see an empty star, click on it, and the class will now be in your 'favorites' or 'wishlist'.
All of the Sessions pages allow you to pick among viewing (1) all classes, (2) just those you've marked as favorites, or (3) those you have not marked.
You can remove a class from your wishlist by clicking on its gold star to turn it back to an unmarked (empty) star.
Your wishlist is stored as a cookie in your browser, so cannot be shared across browsers.
When registration opens, the registration form will highlight your starred classes and you can specify their ranking order.
Except for classes specifically desccribed as Intermediate, all classes are suitable for someone new to the topic.
Try the 'something old, something new' approach - classes marked with gray stars have been given at previous Sound Waters - classes marked with green triangles are new material, sometimes by returning presenters.
Over 75 percent of our classes are new this year (look for green triangle marker)
The Program Team works hard to ensure that we have a mix of new and old topics - we hope you enjoy them.

You may download a paper registration form from the Downloads link on the left side of this page. Print it, fill it out, and mail it along with your check to the address on the form.
