The Island County Marine Resources Committee is looking for dedicated members of our community to join our team. Serving on our committee requires attendance at monthly meetings and being actively involved in one or more of our research, education, or stewardship projects. The term for new members is 3 years. Meetings are currently held via zoom on the first Tuesday of every month 3:00 pm-5:00pm. We are especially interested in having at least one member on our committee from the naval community and one from the agricultural community. The intention for these specific seats is to help be a link between the MRC and the Navy and agricultural communities.
The MRC has three main categories of effort. We are involved with locally-driven community science, monitoring bull kelp, forage fish, and juvenile salmon. We have several projects that aim to restore dynamic natural ecosystem processes between the shoreline and marine environment. The goal is to create more suitable habitat for salmon. We also provide education about the marine environment in classrooms, through festivals and fairs, and through signage at our restoration sites. You can learn more about our work through our website: https://www.islandcountymrc.org/
Vision:
To sustain and enhance a healthy, resilient marine environment where individuals are engaged and strive to support life for all inhabitants of Island County.
Values:
The MRC values collaboration, inclusivity, and community-driven projects which are scientifically based, meaningful, and generate lasting results.
