Monofilament Recycling Update

Salmon season is open for many species, and there are hundreds of fishermen trying their luck. This prompted the monofilament recycling team to check the line bins at many boat launch sites on Whidbey Island. The team gathered enough line to deposit 10 lbs. with the recyclers – Skagit Steel and Recycling. This might not seem like a lot- but is a lot of line that won’t end up tangled in fish or other sea creatures. The team’s grand total recycled is 119 lbs. in the 9 years since the start of the program.

Reported by Jill Hein, SWS Project Lead for Fishing Line Collection which is under Stewardship.
