Lyn Murphy, Sound Water Stewards/Beach Watchers class of 2005, passed away on Feb. 8. 2024.
From classmate Jill Hein: “If you were on the team of [Sound Water Stewards] SWS swag makers when we made 75 or so swags and sold them at the Coupeville Holiday Fare in the Rec Hall – Lyn was a major part of that group – and often helped make swags for our annual Whidbey Holiday Party. She was an amazing gardener, cook, volunteer, friend and more. She was my best “down-under” buddy (down under = NZ and Australia). Lyn had her 90th birthday in December, 2023.”
From Whidbey News-Times, “Carolyn was a devoted volunteer in the Whidbey Island community for 56 years….A protector of Pigeon Guillemot colonies for the Beach Watchers and Island County’s first-ever 4-H Leader of the Year… At 84 years of age, Carolyn became an American citizen. After years of persuading others how to vote, Carolyn finally got to cast her own ballot. She was a protector of equal rights, an advocate for higher education, a believer in affordable health care and a supporter of the arts.”
