Whale Watching with Sound Water Stewards and Puget Sound Express
Special Gray Whale Watching tour and fundraiser to support Sound Water Stewards 501(c)(3). Our mission is to protect & preserve our coastal ecosystems through education, science, & stewardship. Aboard the Swiftsure, naturalists will mesmerize you with fun facts, guide you through what you are seeing, and answer your questions! Special departure aboard the Puget Sound Express whale watching boat, Swiftsure, from the Langley Marina on March 30th at 3:00 pm PST.
Did you know Gray Whales migrate north to Alaska from Baja California, and some of the individuals break off the migration route to feed on ghost shrimp each spring (approximately March-May) in the North Puget Sound waters before continuing north to the Bering and Chukchi Seas?
Gray Whale Heart Shape Blow
Did you know when a Gray whale spouts, it creates a heart show blow? Gray whales have two blow holes on top of their head. When they come up to the surface and exhale through both blow holes this creates a heart shape! See the image below by our Sound Water Stewards volunteer, Jill Hein. Pictured next to the heart shaped Gray whale blow, is the beach at low tide after the Gray whales have fed on Ghost Shrimp buried in the mud! The whales take mouthfuls of sediment close near shore and filter out the sand and water through their baleen, which leaves the shrimp in their mouths, and holes all along the beaches!

Puget Sound Express, Swiftsure
Enjoy a wrap-around viewing deck, restrooms, and galley, with 7 HDTVs and a premium sound system with speakers inside and out, for whale watching naturalist presentations.
Swiftsure is a catamaran with 2 asymmetrical semi-planing hulls, and an articulated hydrofoil that allows the boat to efficiently travel at 35 knots (40mph).
