At Deception Pass State ParkSIGNUPGENIUS – Dyanne Sheldon is a Restoration Ecologist, University of Washington Wetlands Science & Management (retired) Dyanne Sheldon has spent over 40 years studying and learning about the various habitats in the Puget Sound region; her specialty is the ecology of wetlands in the Puget Sound lowlands. Dyanne has been working on Whidbey Island as a restoration ecologist and wetland biologist since the early 1990’s. She generously shares her expertise with Whidbey Audubon, Whidbey Camano Land Trust, Sound Waters University, and with us, Sound Water Stewards.

Field Trip Description: Is it a bog or a marsh? Is it fresh or salt water? How was it formed? What wildlife does it sustain? What plants thrive in this area? Dyanne will give an overview of this Deception Pass wetland ecosystem and clarify what you are seeing.

  • one-hour walking tour (9:30 to 10:30 am or 11 am to noon) for trainees who are fully vaccinated with no Covid symptoms.
  • Discover Pass or one-day pass required
  • Meet at restrooms near south end of parking lot at West Beach, near start of Sand Dune Interpretive Trail – see map of the state park
