Partner Event – Skagit River Floods: Geology, Risk, & Community Impact
May 30 @ 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Presented by
Emily McQuarrie, Skagit Valley College Geology Department Faculty
A guided exploration of the geologic processes that drive flooding along the Skagit River, with a focus on recent events in December 2025. Learn how factors like sediment transport, water discharge, channel dynamics, and floodplain geology shape how flooding tends to occur. Beyond the geology and the science, this presentation will highlight how these floods affect our community by examining local socioeconomic patterns and revealing how vulnerability and recovery are unevenly distributed. Connecting physical processes with lived experience will better inform future planning and resilience within our community.
