Partner Event – Skagit River Flooding: Climate-Informed Modeling & Impacts on Salmon

May 16 @ 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Presented by
Dr. Guillaume Mauger, WA State Climatologist & UW Climate Impact Group Research Scientist
Heather Spore, Swinomish Indian Tribal Community Environmental Policy Manager

The Swinomish Indian Tribal Community recently led a project designed to build upon existing data and flood modeling efforts to create an updated, climate informed model of Skagit River flooding. Come hear results from this new hydraulic modeling project that includes climate change drivers like increased water and sea level rise. Learn about how floods unfold in the Skagit and the impacts of climate change on future events, as well as information on the role of Skagit dams in reducing risk and how flooding, in today’s Skagit River, affects salmon and their habitat.
