This series generally targets formal and informal educators that are engaging students (elementary through college) in formal classroom settings, as well as members of the community in informal educational venues (e.g. after school programs, science centers, aquariums, etc.). However, the series is open to anyone interested in the topics! To learn more about the webinar series, visit this link!

Todays presentation – Where the Wild Things Are: Cetaceans Reveal Interconnectedness of Marine Sanctuary Ecosystems

Various cetacean species utilize coastal regions of the California Current ecosystem, including in all five national marine sanctuaries off California. Learn more about long-term satellite telemetry in Monterey Bay and how the results demonstrate far more extensive and regular use across the network of national marine sanctuaries along California’s coast than previously thought, illustrating the interconnectedness of these ecosystems.

Presented by: Brandon Southall, Marine Bioacoustician and Research Associate and Ari Friedlaender, Marine Ecologist and Professor, University of California, Santa Cruz
