Garry Oak Work Parties

November 10, 2023 @ 10:30 am 1:30 pm

Join Jim Peskuric, Class of 2022 for a weekly gathering to introduce volunteers to opportunities with the Garry Oak Ecosystem Restoration planting project. He will meet volunteers on Fridays at 10:30 am.

As of mid-October, the acorns are being soaked to make sure they are good to start the germination process. (Jim has all the acorns needed) There are also 50 native Rhododendron plants to put in the transition forest/prairie areas.

The area where the planting will be done needs prep work of clearing grass, making cages to keep critters out and mark the spot, and help the sprouts survive the winter and spreading mulch and compost. We will put 4 acorns per cage.

Please let Jim know you are coming (425-599-6094) so he can prepare for the attendees. Here is his email address peskuricj@hotmail.com

ALTERNATE ACTIVITY: Wednesdays 1 to 4 pm when volunteers assist scientists with cleaning seeds.
