Fort Casey, Keystone Spit and Crockett Lake Birding Trip (Whidbey Island)
February 7, 2027 @ 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Your Guide: Steve Ellis
Steve Ellis is a Coupeville resident and former president of Whidbey Audubon Society. He and his wife Martha have taught many Sound Water Stewards classes. Steve has led birding field trips and nature walks for over 30 years and writes a monthly blog, “Nature Watch,” for the Whidbey Camano Land Trust.

We’ll start by looking for seabirds such as Rhinoceros Auklets from the bluff at historic Fort Casey State Park. A walk around the picnic grounds offers a chance to see forest birds. The trip will finish with a stop at Keystone Ferry and then a look for shorebirds and raptors along Crockett Lake.
Meet Up
Meet at the parking area near the Fort Casey Lighthouse. Dress for the weather. Snow or ice cancels the trip. Each vehicle entering the state park will need a Discover Pass. Bring binoculars if you have them.
