Joan coordinates Stewards for education, community science and stewardship activities based at Camano and Stanwood. Joan supports the Stewardship Committee, Camano Steering Committee, Volunteer Education Training Committee (VETC), helps recruit and train new members, writes and designs SWS e-newsletter and web content, and utilizes her background in non-profit management to help with grant-writing.

Joan is an experienced volunteer coordinator and organizer. She brings a background in environmental activism with CARE (Camano Action for a Rural Environment), public health, women’s health, clean energy and transportation, and a lifetime working in non-profits. Joan served on several boards of directors over the years, including Solar Washington helping produce the annual Solar Summit, Okanogan Family Planning when she lived in rural eastern Washington over 20 years ago, and currently serves as Vice President of the boards of Stanwood Farmers Market as well as her neighborhood water association which keeps her in touch with the aquifers and the regulations of Island County.
