On December 2, County Commissioner Janet St Clair awarded a Hometown Hero Certificate of Appreciation to longtime SWS Member Barbara Brock, SWS Class of 2002, for her dedicated service to promote salmon recovery in the Salish Sea. The award was announced at a town hall presentation on salmon habitat restoration on Camano.

For many years, Barbara served on Island County’s Water Resources Advisory Council (WRAC) and Salmon Technical Advisory Group which is now called the Salmon Recovery Technical and Citizen Committee. Barbara helped develop the county’s Camano Island Non-Point Pollution Plan, served on the Shore Stewards Advisory Committee and on the board of Friends of Camano Island Parks (FOCIP), and has worked extensively on salmon recovery and habitat restoration of Kristoferson Creek and other sites.

In 2010, Barbara was named the first Jan Holmes Coastal Volunteer of the Year.

Barbara is pictured here a few years ago gathering chantarelle mushrooms with numerous Sound Water Stewards. Thank you, Scott Chase, Class of 2002, for sending this photo.
